Dear reader,
QUICK START
===========
If you have an MS-DOS computer, and the MS-DOS program MORE.COM in C:\DOS,
just do a
TYPE ONLINE.TXT | C:\DOS\MORE
It is not very elegant, but it works.
You can load the book into a word processing program, or read it with a file
viewer. My favorites are:
LOOKFOR - MS-DOS shareware boolean text search program authored by
David L. Trafton, 6309 Stoneham Rd., Bethesda, Md. 20817,
U.S.A. Registration: US$ 15.00.
LIST - Shareware viewing program from Vern Buerg, 139 White Oak
Circle Petaluma, CA 94952, U.S.A. (US$ 37.00)
A copy of the former has been included, so that you can try it.
NOTE: LOOKFOR is a shareware program. Registering for the Online World
does NOT imply that you also register your copy of LOOKFOR!!!
--------
If you decide to use the program, register directly as instructed in the
accompanying information file. LOOKFOR is not free!
USING LOOKFOR
=============
If you have an MS-DOS computer, you must extract the LOOKFOR program and its
documentation from the transportation file before you can try it. Enter
LOOKFV5
to extract three files.
To read the book, enter
LOOKFOR IN ONLINE.TXT
LOOKFOR's disadvantage is that blank lines usually disappear. The good news is
that it allows you to search for information in the book, and that searching
is very fast. Sample command:
LOOKFOR internet AND telnet IN online.txt
Read LOOKFOR.DOC (in the LOOKFV5.COM file) for more information.
Note
====
This archive should contain only one readme file. Any more or less you can
be sure did not come from me.
Happy reading!
